MIKE O'MALLEY

 

 

Truly a multi-hyphenate, Mike O’Malley got his start in front of the camera landing a job as the host for Nickelodeon’s iconic game show GUTS. His success continued in television with standout roles in Yes, Dear, My Name Is Earl, My Own Worst Enemy, Justified, and Mike’s Emmy-nominated performance as the lovable ‘Burt Hummel’ on the hit show Glee.  His feature work includes roles in Eat Pray Love, R.I.P.D., Cedar Rapids, Leatherheads, Meet Dave, 28 Days, and Deep Impact.  Also an accomplished writer, Mike wrote and produced the independent feature Certainty which he adapted from his own play.  In television, Mike served as a Consulting Producer on Shameless for Showtime, and he is currently the Executive Producer and Showrunner on the Starz scripted comedy series, Survivor's Remorse

With a prolific career encompassing theater, film and television, Mike O’Malley is a man of unstoppable talent in front of and behind the camera.

 

O’Malley also stars in the critically-acclaimed television series Glee.He plays ‘Burt Hummel,’ the father of a gay son, played by Chris Colfer. O’Malley received an Emmy Award nomination for his work in the role. Glee has continued success with ratings and has garnered multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards. 

 

O’Malley was recently seen proving himself to be an outstanding dramatic actor, having the range to act in a comedy role on Glee to a recurring role on Justified as the mobster ‘Nicky Augustine’. 

 

O’Malley was recently seen on the big screen in the Universal Pictures’ live-action, comedy R.I.P.D. based on the comic by Peter Lenkov alongside Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Mary Louise Parker.

 

O’Malley’s accomplished acting career is matched by his writing talent, currently writing the Starz comedy Survivor's Remorse.  He wrote for the Showtime drama Shameless, starring William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum and Joan Cusack. He additionally wrote and produced the screen play Certainty, starring Robert Arensen, Jo Armeniox and John Auer.

 

O’Malley was seen in the film Cedar Rapids alongside an all-star cast of Sigourney Weaver, Ed Helms and John C. Reilly. The film is a hilarious-yet-heartfelt story about a small town insurance salesman who finds that his path to self-discovery leads to the annual insurance convention. Directed by Miguel Arteta, Cedar Rapids premiered to rave reviews at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

 

O’Malley starred alongside Julia Roberts in 2010’s Eat Pray Love. Writer and director Ryan Murphy wrote a role especially for O’Malley in the film which is based on the poplar book. The film also starred Javier Bardem, James Franco, Billy Crudup and Viola Davis.

 

Other film and television credits include, Leatherheads, 28 Days, Pushing Tin, The Perfect Man, Parks and Recreation, Raising Hope, My Name is Earl, Yes, Dear and Life with Roger. He is also an accomplished playwright, who wrote the off-Broadway plays, Three Years From Thirty and Diverting Devotion.

 

O’Malley is a Boston native, but currently resides in Los Angeles.
